Delhi mayor Kanwar Sain today demanded an inquiry into the police action on BJP councillors and activists protesting against price rise, in which a number of people were injured.

Sain wrote a letter to police commissioner YS Dadwal, demanding that an inquiry be initiated into yesterday's incident and action taken against "erring police officials who acted brutally to crush the protest".

Ten BJP councillors and activists, including MCD Standing Committee chairman Ram Kishan Singhal, were injured yesterday when police used water canons to disperse demonstrators who were trying to reach the Delhi assembly on bullock carts to protest price rise.

Sain said that the way water cannons were used on BJP councillors, "it seems that some police officials were politically motivated to do so." This calls for an "in-depth inquiry," he said.
