A 29-year-old unemployed man has been arrested for allegedly hiring contract killers to murder his father after he refused to pay his expenses two years after the incident, police said today.

Police also arrested four persons who were allegedly paid Rs10 lakh by Nitish Gupta for killing his father Jai Bhagwan Gupta, a spice trader, in January 2008. Gupta was shot dead in Model Town while he was out on a morning walk.

"It was a blind case. However, we managed to nab five of them recently. We got a tip off that they will assemble near Kalyan Vihar yesterday," Ashok Chand, deputy commissioner of police (crime), said.

Besides Nitish, police also arrested alleged contract killers Lalit Yadav, 22, Lal Bahadur, 40, Gaurav Kumar, 23, and Mohad Adil, 23. Their associate Rakesh Kumar, who was involved in the case, died in a gangwar last year in Haryana's Rohtak.

"Nitish was unemployed and was allegedly involved in illegal activities which were opposed by his family. He used to ask his father for money for his expenses. But Gupta never used to give him money. This enraged Nitish and he decided to get him killed," a senior police officer said.

"He was annoyed with his father for ill-treating him. Also he had a grudge that his father was spending a lot of money and nothing would be left for him. He came in contact with Yadav and paid Rs10 lakh for killing his father," the official said.
