The stand off between Hockey India management and players may have blown over but the Delhi High Court will hear a PIL which seeks a probe into the functioning of several sports bodies, including Indian Hockey Federation and Indian Olympic Association and Sports Authority of India.

Filing the PIL, petitioner Rahul Mehra alleged various sports bodies cannot function as private organisations without any accountability or obligations to the people of the country.

Citing a list of 13 sports bodies, Mehra sought a direction to the Centre to ensure various sports bodies recognised by the government function in an accountable and transparent manner for the objects for which they have been created.

The government must withdraw recognition in case the bodies and their chiefs failed to achieve their objectives besides withdrawing funds and patronage from the organisations, he said.

Mehra alleged "most of these organisations have come to be controlled by persons who have neither the expertise nor any interest in the development and promotion of sports and they are using their positions for self promotion".
