The Uttar Pradesh and Delhi governments on Monday announced financial assistance totalling of Rs35 lakh and a job to the family of the Delhi gang-rape victim.

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav decided to give a financial assistance of Rs20 lakh to the victim's family from his discritionary quota, an official spokesperson said in Lucknow.

The 23-year-old victim hailed from Ballia district in UP.

The CM had earlier announced a job and financial assistance of Rs5 lakh to the family of the victim.

In New Delhi, a cabinet meeting presided by chief minister Sheila Dixit decided to give financial aid Rs15 lakh and a job to the family of the victim.

"Keeping in view the extreme exceptional circumstances and barbaric nature of the crime, the cabinet decided to sanction an amount of 15 lakh to the surviving members of the victim. The decision has been taken by effecting relaxation in rules," a statement issued by chief minister's office said.

The cabinet also decided to offer a government job to one member of the family.

The phsyiotherapy student was brutally gangraped and assaulted in a moving bus in south Delhi on December 16. She died in a Singapore hospital on Saturday morning, three days after she was flown there by an air ambulance. Her mortal remains were cremated here yesterday.
