The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday criticised the government for doing little in the gang-rape case and once again demanded death sentence for the alleged attackers.

"It is unfortunate that she (Congress president Sonia Gandhi) is demanding action and not promising it. After all, she is in the position to do that," BJP leader Sushma Swaraj said, outside Parliament House.

"The trial of the case should be completed within 30 days in a fast track court and these rapists should be hanged so that an example is set which would act as a deterrent," Sushma Swaraj said.

Sushma Swaraj joined several other BJP MPs as they protested outside Parliament House Wednesday. The MPs held placards demanding death sentence for the rapists.

Meanwhile, National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson Mamta Sharma said the issue might be debated in parliament on Wednesday.

"It's a burning issue and it should be debated. I have had a word with Meenakshi Natrajan and Girija Vyas (both Congress MPs) and I think that a debate will definitely take place today (Wednesday)," Sharma said.

The brutal rape and torture occurred on Sunday night when the woman and her friend after watching a movie boarded a private bus at Munirka in south Delhi to go to Dwarka in west Delhi. The woman was beaten up and raped by at least six men inside the bus. Her friend was beaten up too. Four accused have been arrested, police said.
