Delhi bids farewell to goddess Durga

The Bengali community in the capital celebrated the culmination of Durga Puja with great fervour as they bid farewell to the goddess on the final day of the festivity, immersing idols in rivers across the city.

Chanting "Bolo Durga Mai Ki, Jai", people took the giant idols of goddess Durga from puja venues to the banks of Yamuna and immersed it after offering prayers.

Special rituals were performed in front of the idols of the goddess and her four children before they were taken to the banks of Yamuna for immersion.

Various puja venues across the city, including the famous ones in Chittaranjan Park and Karol Bagh, saw a large number of people gathering to seek the blessings of the goddess this morning.

An adequate number of policemen were deployed across the city to streamline the rush of devotees who were headed towards river banks to immerse the idols.

A large number of policemen were also spotted at river banks.

The ceremony before the immersion led to traffic snarls in many areas, including Kalindi Kunj, Wazirpur and CR Park.

A senior police official said that the traffic on Ring Road from Wazirpur to Rajghat was affected due to the procession taken out for the immersion.
