For the last couple of weeks rampant flight delays at city's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport have upset travel plans of many a flier from the city.

Hundreds of such harassed passengers have not only been left stranded but also missed the purpose of their trip because of these unprecedented delays. Such is the level of chaos at the domestic terminal that passengers have dubbed it as the international 'railway station' owing to the uncertainty of flights!

"I was going to Delhi with several guests in March this year. Our flight got delayed for nearly two hours. This eventually resulted into a most chaotic trip for all of us. Again there is hardly any good facility for refreshments at the airport. All my planning went for six with the delay and lack of facilities also ruined my plans to give my guests special attention during the delayed period," lamented Mrugal Sonpura, a city-based businessman.

Similarly, another frequent flier Ashish Mankad said that delays can be accepted, but what is not is the attitude of the authorities concerned that adds salt to the injury. He said that there is no doubt that lots of infrastructural developments have come up in recent time, but behaviour of officials managing the airport needs to be changed.
An income tax officer who was recently stuck in a similar chaotic situation during another delay said that the airport has virtually turned into another railway station of sorts. The officer alleged it took him nearly five hours to reach Mumbai to see off his daughter.

He said that the plane got delayed for two hours at Ahmedabad airport while in Mumbai it kept circling for nearly three hours before it could land.

Last week, two back-to-back delays of SpiceJet flights left over 250 passengers stranded and have made passengers so weary that they have pledged never to choose this airline any more. Such trend is being reflected among the travel agencies in the city as well.

Manish Patel, managing director of Fly Fortune, said that many passengers have stopped travelling in low cost carriers nowadays.
