The UK government has ordered travel bans, freezing of assets of terrorists in Pakistan and arms embargo against Nasiruddin Haqqani, a key leader of one of world’s most dangerous terror groups.
British prime minister David Cameron has swung into action in his fight against terror. He has ordered a freeze on the assets of key terror groups and terrorists associated with the Taliban and al -Qaeda.
Documents in possession of DNA reveal that the UK government has ordered travel bans, freezing of assets of terrorists in Pakistan and arms embargo against Nasiruddin Haqqani, a key leader of one of world’s most dangerous terror groups.
The swift action is in tune with the hard line taken by Manmohan Singh and David Cameron, the British PM, who together spoke out on Thursday against Pakistan’s hand in spreading terror. The British government has also imposed sanctions on Agha Ishakzai, the head of the Taliban’s financial commission and Amir Abdullah, former treasurer to senior Taliban leader Mullah Baradar.
Based in Waziristan, one of Pakistan’s remote tribal areas, the Haqqani network is led by Nasiruddin Haqqani’s brother. The group has been blamed for several bomb attacks in Kabul last year, including one on the Indian embassy. Nasiruddin has made several trips to the United Arab Emirates to raise money for the Taliban.
Gul Agha Ishakzai is the head of the Taliban’s financial commission and belongs to a council in Baluchistan, Pakistan, that coordinates the collection of money. He is thought to be a close adviser to Taliban leader Mullah Mohammed Omar.
These leaders are on the United Nations’ list of most dangerous persons. The list, released by the UN on July 19, 2010, has names of people thought to be associated with al Qaeda, Osama Bin Laden or the Taliban.
All countries have been alerted so that no financial institution, other bodies and persons maintain any account or hold any funds or economic resources for individuals named by the British government under the UN mandate. If they do, they should report to the treasury details of all funds or economic resources they have frozen.
