Chennai: The cyclonic storm 'Ward' over the southwest Bay of Bengal has weakened into a deep depression and lay centered 400kmsoutheast of Nagapattinam and 400km east of Pamban, the MeT office said here today.
The storm is likely to move in a westerly direction and cross Sri Lanka early tomorrow morning before crossing the south Tamil Nadu coast between Kanyakumari and Pamban on December 15, Met officials said.
Rainfall has been forecast at many places, with isolated heavy to very heavy rain falls over north coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during next 48 hours.
Squally winds reaching 55-65kmph and gusting to 75kmph are likely along and off South Tamil Nadu coast in the next 48 hours, the weather office said.
The sea would be very rough along and off north Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts, it said and advised fishermen not venture out to sea.
