Cyber crime wing registers case against Facebook user

A case has been registered against an unidentified person for posting derogatory remarks against a community on his Facebook page. Ghulam Maiyuddin Sheikh, a lawyer who lives in Limdi Chowk in Dariapur, has filed a complaint against the Facebook user with the profile name, 'Deepti Bhattnagar'. The user claims to have studied in Gujarat University.

According to the complaint, the user had updated the content on his Facebook page on February 13, 2012 between 10:16 and 10:48 pm. In his post updating the content, the user had made insulting observations about a particular community.

A case in this connection was registered by police inspector AK Patel with the cyber crime department of the police on February 20. DCP (crime branch) Himanshu Shukla has assured the complainant that necessary action would be taken against the guilty person once he is tracked down using his IP (internet protocol) address.

The police said that the user had created a fake profile using the name of a Bollywood celebrity. Investigation in the case has started and the IP address from where the Facebook account was updated will soon be revealed.

Sources in the police said that several cases of fake Facebook accounts being used to post objectionable matter had come to light in recent months.
