Curfew imposed in some parts of Kashmir Valley

Nowhatta, Rainawari, Khanyar, Safakadal and Maharaj Gunj police station areas in Srinagar were brought under curfew in the wee hours.

Curfew was today imposed in parts of Srinagar, Baramulla, Pulwama and Kupwara districts of Kashmir Valley as authorities apprehended breach of peace after Friday prayers.

"Curfew has been imposed in five police station areas of summer capital Srinagar as a precautionary measure," a police spokesperson said.

Nowhatta, Rainawari, Khanyar, Safakadal and Maharaj Gunj police station areas in the city were brought under curfew in the wee hours.

Curfew was also imposed in Pattan, Delina, Palahalan, Sopore, Dangiwacha and Baramulla district headquarter town in north Kashmir, the spokesperson said.

Kupwara, Kralpora, Tregam, Handwara, Chottipora and Kulangam in Kupwara district were also placed under similar restrictions.

The saffron town of Pampore in Pulwama district has also been placed under curfew after a 55-year-old man, who was allegedly beaten up by security force personnel on October seven, succumbed to injuries late last night at a hospital here, the spokesperson said.

Two days after Ghulam Nabi Mir, a resident of Kadlabal in Pampore, was allegedly beaten up by security force personnel, his family members had lodged a complaint with police which registered an FIR under section 307 (attempt to murder) of Ranbir Penal Code.

With Mir's death, the toll in the ongoing unrest in Kashmir Valley, which began on June 11 after the killing of a 17-year-old boy at Rajouri Kadal in the city, has now gone up to 106.

The spokesperson also said that three policemen were injured last evening when protestors pelted stones at their vehicle at Humhama in Budgam district.
