CRPF constable goes on shooting spree, kills 3 in Dharwad

Irked over his wife not staying with him, a newly married CRPF constable allegedly shot dead three relatives, including two children, at Bettadur village in Dharwad district today, the police said.

Shankarappa Thippanna Koravar, 28, had some marital discord with his wife following which she had left him and was staying with her parents, they said.

Enraged by his wife's desertion, Koravar, who had come home on leave, held his wife's uncle Yellappa Bhajantri, 36, responsible for the situation.

He went to Bhajantri's residence and started firing with a revolver, killing Bhajantri and his two children, a boy aged six and girl, 5, on the spot, they said, adding another son, aged seven, who was injured, has been admitted to hospital and is "recovering".

Koravar is absconding.
