As part of its rectification drive, the CPI(M) will set up a central disciplinary commission (CDC) to probe corruption charges against party leaders. As per a proposal mooted by the CPI(M) central committee, select members of the politburo and the central committee, who have a clean image, will be appointed members of CDC.

Party sources told DNA that leaders in the state secretariat and above, who have been accused of corruption, will be probed. Leaders with properties disproportionate to their known sources of income will be targeted. “We will focus on states where our party is strong, especially West Bengal where we have been in power for the past 32 years,” a senior central committee member said.

Leaders with close relationships with anti-socials and dishonest real estate developers and promoters will also be targeted.

The CDC decision was taken after questions were raised over the party’s decision to include only lower- and middle-level leaders in the rectification drive.
