The CPI(M) today demanded CB-CID probe into the murder of a 38 year-old party functionary in Namakkal who had sought police action against usury.
In his letter to Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi, CPI(M) state secretary G Ramakrishnan said that despite a complaint by party funtionary Velusamy last month with local Pallipalayam police fearing threat to his life by a person involved in usury, they had not taken action.
'He had given a second complaint on March 10 around 9.45 pm but was killed within an hour,' Ramakrishnan said in his letter.
Therefore, it 'would not be proper' for Pallipalayam police to investigate the case and the probe should be handed over to CB-CID wing of the state police, he said.
Velusamy was hacked to death by an eight-member gang near the police station in full public view as he emerged from the station on March 10.
