CPI(M) has issued an internal memo to all its party members as per which they will have to furnish details of their monthly income and expenditure to their immediate leadership.
Failure in adhering to the party diktatwill invite severe disciplinary action, including expulsion, West Bengal Left Front chairman Biman Bose said.
Highly placed CPI(M) sources told DNA that the memo has also asked party members to mention the total monthly family income and furnish details of the source of income of each family member. The party member will also have to give details of the monthly expenditure incurred by the family.
In case the party finds that a member’s expenditure is disproportionate to his income, the party leadership will summon the member for explanation.
CPI(M) sources said that the party leadership has noticed cases where the income vs expenditure ratio of party members was disproportionate. “We want to keep a check on these. Therefore, all these new restrictions,” a state committee leader said.
The CPI(M) leadership wants to keep a close watch on its members’ standard of living and will seek explanations from party members in case it finds anything suspicious.
For example, if the child of a party member is going abroad to pursue higher education, the member will have to inform the leadership about whether the child’s education was scholarship-based or funded by someone.
In case it has been funded by the member, he or she will have to explain from where the fund has been sourced. In case the funding involves an outsider, the member will have to explain his relationship with the fund provider.
Similarly, if a party member intends to purchase a car, he or she will have to inform the party leadership. Even if the car is purchased after procuring a loan from the bank, the member will have to justify if his monthly income can bear the additional expenditure of paying the EMI.
