CPI leader T Pandian today questioned the Indian government providing Rs500 crore aid for the internally displaced Sri Lankan Tamils when there were allegations of human rights violations by the island's army.
Talking to reporters here, he said even US senators had charged the Lankan government with violating human rights and wanted to know why the Centre was giving aid.
He said the Sri Lankan government had allowed only a delegation of Tamil Nadu MPs to visit the camps housing the displaced Tamils but not journalists and UN observers during and after the war between the Lankan army and LTTE.
There were also complaints that even those who had been sent out of the camps were not settled in their native place.
"It is false propaganda to say that refugees are being sent to their native place," he said.
