Court sentences 12 for gangraping minor 16 years ago in UP

A Saharanpur court has sentenced 12 people to seven year imprisonment for gangraping a teenaged girl in a 16-year-old case.

The additional sessions judge Mohd Sharif also imposed a fine of Rs6,000 each on the accused yesterday.

According to the prosecution, the accused - Yashpal, Mathi, Rishipal, Devi Singh, Pratap, Jagdish, Surinder, Randhir, Samey Singh, Dharam Singh, Meghraj and Mesar - had raped the 16-year-old girl at Kishenpur village in the district on September 7, 1993.

The police had filed case against 15 men in the incident. Two of them had died while one is still absconding.
