A tiff over a decision whether to live separately from a joint family or not led to a couple setting themselves ablazealong with their two-year-old son at Allinagaram near Tamil Nadu's Theni district.
Police said G Ramesh, 32, got married to Muthulakshmi three years back and was living with his parents against the wishes of his wife. His mother was opposed to her son leaving her and used to frequently quarrel over the issue.
Police said the child died on the spot and the couple died at a hospital last night without responding to treatment.
Muthulakshmi's mother Rajam had filed a complaint, alleging that that her daughter was forced to commit suicide unable to bear the "torture" of her mother-in-law.
Police said they had also registered a case based on the complaint and are questioning the mother of Ramesh.
