Counting of votes for the by election to Yaiskul assembly constituency in Imphal East district of Manipur would be taken up tomorrow.

Election office today said counting would begin from 8 am at the office complex of the deputy commissioner at Porompat near here and the result was expected at around 10 am.

The by-election was necessitated due to the untimely death of Congress MLA E Kunjeshore Singh about four months ago.

Four candidates--E Suraj (Congress and son of Kunjeshore Singh), H Jayadev (independent), S Rajen (Janata Dal Secular) and A Jagdish (independent)--are in the fray.

Congress has 30 seats in the 60-member Manipur Assembly and is the major partner of ruling Secular Progressive Front ministry with CPI having three members.
