Attacking Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the issue price rise, BJP leader LK Advani today alleged rampant corruption within Congress, among his own ministers and UPA allies and in states was one of the main reasons for his failure to tame inflation.

"I feel one of the main reasons for his failure to control inflation is rampant corruption in Congress party, corruption in his government's ministers, corruption by the allies and in different states across the country.

"These are the reasons why he is unable to check inflation and price rise," he told a public rally here.

Advani said "when Manmohan Singh became the Prime Minister, all thought he would provide relief to the common man from rising prices.

"All knew that he was an economist and it was hoped that he would provide relief to the common man by controlling price rise, which is rising everyday",     the BJP leader said.

High inflation has made life difficult for the common man but the "biggest worry" was due to rising food inflation, he said.

Taking a dig at reports about rising number of crorepatis in the country, Advani said it is not the barometer for guaging India's success and development.

"If lakhpatis turn crorepatis and crorepatis turn into padampatis, it is not a measure to guage the nation's development. Is that called development?" he said.

He said the barometer of the nation's development was if the condition of the poorest of the poor improved and they lived with dignity.
