The police have launched a hunt for a Bangladeshi girl who fled her country to marry an Indian she met on the internet.
Her father, Captain Abdus Sabur Khan, who is an officer in the Bangladesh army, flew to Delhi and moved the high court pleading that it direct the police to trace his daughter. According to Khan, last year, his daughter became friends with Salman, who “cheated” and “abducted” her. Even though Salman is married, he’s also married Khan’s daughter.
Justice VK Jain wants Delhi Police to trace the Army officer’s daughter who is believed to be living in India without valid papers. The police have been given time till December 10 but warned against arresting or harassing the couple.
Khan says Salman flew to Bangladesh from the UAE, where he was working as a property consultant. The girl then came to India and the couple moved a petition in court in July seeking protection, which was granted to them.
Meanwhile, Khan has also sought the help of the Bangladesh high commission in India. The commission has written to the home ministry requesting that the girl be traced and handed over to her parents in Bangladesh.
