Orissa police today arrested a Maoist ultra allegedly involved in the killing of two cops in Orissa's Keonjhar district last year, police said.

The ultra, identified as Jaypal Hembram alias Kunduru (27) was nabbed from Parvat Nuasahi area under Daitari police station in neighbouring Jajpur district.

The personnel of the state's elite anti-naxalite force, special operation group (SOG), with help of local police arrested Hembram while he trying to escape.

Besides the killings of Brahmanipal police outpost in-charge officer Muralidhar Bastia and homeguard Hadibandhu Mahanta on July 29, 2009, Hembram was also an accused in the murder of Bijay Sahu, a supervisor of a private construction company, police said.

The arrested ultra had confessed to have been a member of CPI(Janashakti) operating in Keonjhar-Jajpur district border and engaged in collection of funds for the out-lawed outfit, the police said adding that at least seven cases were pending against his name at two different police stations.

He was also an accused in burning of a railway station at Sagadapada in Keonjhar district.
