Contractor beats mother to death in Delhi

A 28-year-old contractor was arrested today for allegedly beating his mother to death in North-East Delhi following an argument over buying a mobile phone for her, police said.

The incident took place in Harsh Vihar at around 6 pm yesterday and the deceased has been identified as Parveena Begum, 55, a senior police officer said.

"Yusuf Ali allegedly beat his mother with an iron rod following an argument over buying a mobile phone for her," he said.

Ali used to have frequent fights with his family over several issues following his marriage against his family's wishes.

Begum, who was beaten up 30 times, suffered multiple injuries and was rushed to Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital where she died.

Ali, who was absconding, was arrested today, the officer said.
