Constitutional crisis on Telangana planned

With the Centre taking more time on making an official announcement on the roadmap for a separate state, Telangana Rashtra Samithi chief K Chandrasekhara Rao is gearing up for yet another protest programme.

This time he is working on a strategy to force a major constitutional crisis in the state by forcing the speaker of the state assembly to approve the resignations of all his 10 MLAs from the Telangana region.

KCR also tabled this proposal in the political joint action committee (JAC) meeting on Tuesday. Though the other constituents of the JAC including the Congress and TDP did not oppose the proposal, these parties are willing to give some more time to the Centre before forcing a constitutional crisis in the state.

Sources said though KCR is keen on storming the speaker’s office on January 18 to get the resignations approved, the Congress and TDP MLAs are willing to do so only by the end of the month.

Meanwhile, an IANS report said on Tuesday that two ministers from the Telangana region — IT minister K Venkat Reddy and higher education minister D Sridhar Babu — met state Congress chief D Srinivas to convey their decision about withdrawing resignations.
