Urging partymen not to be swayed away by Congress's stupendous performance in 15th general elections and in the state, where it wrested power from the BJP, Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot today called upon party cadre to take up the municipal polls slated for November 23 as a challenge.
"For the first time, voters would directly elect mayors, and chairmen in civic bodies, hence the party should perform well and carry the developmental works done by the Congress government in last one year," Gehlot said here at PCC office.
Partymen should not take any chance to lose power of municipal corporations, municipal council and municipality as these were the grass root bodies to serve public easily, he said. He also assured that there would be free and fair selection of candidates, and aspirants having criminal record and corruption charges would not be given any chance.
Speaking on the occasion, the PCC president CP Joshi assured that the party was in full swing to face the poll battle on its own.
