Main opposition Congress will 'gherao' the Madhya Pradesh Assembly tomorrow against the alleged failure of the ruling BJP government to provide land rights and other basic facilities to tribals and forest dwellers under the Forest Rights Act, 2006.
As per the Forest Rights Act, tribals and forest dwellers living in the forests till 2005 were supposed to get land rights, but the state government failed to provide land rights to large number of people under the scheme, state Congress president, Suresh Pachouri told reporters today.
In order to protest against the failure of the state government in protecting the rights of tribals, the Congress will lay siege to the State Assembly tomorrow, Pachouri said.
He also alleged that the state government failed to utilise the funds alloted under various schemes for opening schools, hospitals and roads in tribal areas.
Highlighting the problem of farmers, he said that scam to the tune of nearly Rs200 crore took place in the loan waiver scheme announced by the Central government by waiving of loans of large number of persons who were not farmers.
