Accusing Congress, Bahujan Samaj Party and Samajwadi Party of being "hand-in-glove" over the issues of corruption and vote bank politics, Bharatiya Janata Party today declared if it failed to get majority in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, it would sit in the opposition.
"Both the Congress and the Samajwadi Party have promised reservation for religious minorities in their election manifestos. We would like to know how are they going to do that when the Supreme Court has made it clear that reservation cannot exceed 50 per cent".
He said the parties should explain whether they are thinking of cutting into the quotas meant for the SCs and the OBCs.
Moreover, the BSP which claims to be a champion of Dalits, is maintaining an intriguing silence.
All these parties appear to be hand-in-glove", BJP National President Nitin Gadkari told reporters here.
He said reservations based on religious identity were "at variance with the stand taken by stalwarts like Jawaharlal Nehru, Maulana Azad and Shyama Prasad Mookerjee when the issue had come up for discussion before the Constituent Assembly".
"Moreover, these parties are talking of reservations not because of any genuine concern about Muslims, but due to the fact that they view the community as a mere vote bank", he added.
Gadkari said, "the tacit understanding between these parties is not confined just to vote bank politics. They keep helping each other whenever they are under attack for corruption".
The SP and the BSP helped the UPA government when a no-confidence motion was brought in Parliament over the burning issue of price rise.
They again supported the Congress-led coalition in its defense against the damning report of the Public Accounts Committee on the 2G scam.
The Congress has been returning the favour by forcing the CBI to temper its investigations against Mulayam and Mayawati, both of whom are facing serious charges of graft.
Addressing an election meeting in Chandauli, Gadkari appealed to all Muslim brothers to extend support in building a grand temple at Ayodhya.
"Muslim brothers, you support us and we will also help you to build a Mosque", Gadkari said.
Attacking the SP chief he said that Mulayam Singh Yadav praises SIMI which is involved in terrorist activities and is a terrorist organisation. "Do you people want such persons to be in the government which is formed in UP", he asked.
He said that while Congress loots Delhi, Lucknow is looted by (Lucknow ki Rani) Mayawati.
Attacking the Congress, he asked "can Pranab Mukherji and Chidambaram ever dream of becoming the National president of Congress party, it can never happen as the post is solely reserved for the Gandhi family whereas BJP made a common worker like me its president".
Targeting the central government he asked as to why Chidambaram is outside the jail when A Raja says that whatever he did in the 2G spectrum allotment was with his prior permission and full knowledge. Why is he not being sent to jail.
On BSP, he said that though madam's (Mayawati's) sandals are purchased for Rs 10 lakh from Mumbai and brought by plane, there has been no upliftment of Dalits in UP.
"Congress wants 9 per cent reservation for muslims but I promise in this rally that if BJP comes to power in UP then there would be no reduction in the quota for Dalits and OBCs.
"The Congress party again wants to redivide this country by spreading enmity on basis of Caste and religion", he said.
