Stepping up attack over chief minister Omar Abdullah's statement in the assembly on the crisis in Jammu and Kashmir, BJP today demanded that the Congress snap ties with his National Conference and governor's rule be imposed in the state.

"Congress leaders should shed their greed for beacon vehicles and prove their nationalist credentials by snapping ties with the NC in the state," BJP state spokesperson Ramesh Arora told reporters here.

"The state has been pushed towards a constitutional crisis due to the irresponsible and unconstitutional statement of the chief minister Omar Abdullah and the Congress remained mute spectator during the entire period," he alleged said.

The party said when the Constitution itself "has cleared the relationship of the state with India, there seems no justification for questioning the accession on one pretext or the other".

Urging state governor NN Vohra to take cognizance of the chief minister's statement in the Assembly, the opposition party said he "should recommend to the Centre to immediately sack Omar and impose governor's rule in the state".
