The leader of opposition in the state, Shaktisinh Gohil, has called for the scrutiny of CM Narendra Modi's role in GSPC's deal with Canadian company GeoGlobal.

He has termed the deal as dubious, on the eve of the state-owned blue chip company's forthcoming IPO.

He has also asked for an inquiry into the role of minister of state for energy Saurabh Patel, principal secretary to chief minister K Kailasnathan, principal secretary energy and petrochemicals DJ Pandian, former chief secretary and GSPC chairman D Rajgopalan, GSPC's general manager (planning and development) MY Farooqui and present MD, Tapan Rayin.

In a statement issued by Gohil, he said, "GSPC's deal with GeoGlobal is dubious and not clear. The recent disclosures made by the Canadian company, GeoGlobal to American regulators substantiate our earlier allegation of serious differences between GeoGlobal and GSPC.

The latest figures reveal GeoGlobal owes Rs1,250 cr to GSPC as on May 19, 2010. GSPC is coming out with an IPO very soon to raise Rs3,500 crore to fund its ambitious Deen Dayal Block Developmental projects.

The state-owned company has to explain why it has entered into a deal with a defaulting company like GeoGlobal which is repeatedly refusing to pay the legitimate dues to Gujarat government's GSPC.''

Gohil alleged, "This deal took place in 2002 and has been executed by those who claim to be honest. The chief executioner of this multi-million dollar fraud, DJ Pandian, principal secretary, energy & petrochemical department, and former MD of GSPC is also India's longest serving bureaucrat. And all this has been done with the blessings of those who claim to be the guardians of 5.5 crore Gujaratis.''
