The issue of providing bullet-proof jackets to security personnel was taken up in Rajya Sabha today, in reaction to questions being raised over the quality of equipment given to police forces in the wake of the Mumbai attacks.
Congress member Dharam Pal Sabharwal raised the issue during Special Mentions in the Upper House and said in view of terrorist activities taking place, bullet-proof jackets should be provided to the security personnel in the country.
BJP's Prabhat Jha sought action against anti-social elements involved in trafficking of girls in Jharkhand, while Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)]'s Ali Anwar Ansari urged the government to adopt the Islamic system of banking for inclusive growth of the country.
Advocating the benefits of the system, Ansari said several developed nations like Britain, Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong, France have made necessary amendments in their banking legislations and accommodated Islamic banking.
He said that it is not only for Muslims but is a system based on socially responsible investment.
"In the post 9/11 world, the Arab countries have been looking at India for making investments and considering the current global economic slowdown, Islamic banking presents itself as a valid option and therefore I urge the government to adopt this system of banking," he said.
