The Bharatiya Janata Party today said  that Congress has not done justice to the architect of the Constitution, Dr B R Ambedkar in it's 50 years of rule and treated dalits merely as a votebank.

Addressing a 'Mahakumbh' organised at the birth place of Ambedkar at Mhow near Indore, senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu alleged, "after Independence, power remained in the
hands of one single party and a family, but it failed to do
justice to Ambedkar's historic contribution in the field
of social harmony."

He also alleged on the occasion of Ambedkar's 119th birth anniversary, "they took a long time in awarding Bharat Ratna to the messiah of dalits and even installed the portrait of Ambedkar in the Parliament after 50 years."

Criticising Congress, Naidu said that without caring for the rights of the dalits, the party treated them merely as a votebank for 50 years.

Naidu raised the slogan of 'Jai Ram and Jai Bhim' on the occasion and said that he has no problem in saying so as for BJP, the devotees of Ram and Bhim are not different.

Addressing on the gathering, Madhya Pradesh chief minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan equated the Mahakumbh at  the birth place of Ambedkar with the four Kumbh Melas and termed it as fifth Kumbh for the country.
