Narendra Modi's dramatics has drawn histrionics from the Congress.

Adopting a posture rather unusual for the Gujarat Congress, the party has gone on a major offensive  attacking Narendra Modi head on.

Announcing its three-day fast by leaders of the party - Shankersinh Vaghela and Arjun Modhwadia - outside Gandhi Ashram on the same days as Modi's, party leaders said it was a satyagrah fast on 'footpath' against Modi's 'five-star' fast.

In a rare occasion, leaders from all the three major factions of Congress - Janata Dal; Rashtriya Janata Party and Mul (original) Congressmen - gathered on one stage. Vaghela took the lead in announcing the party's initiatives.

“This is a fast of the common people, by the common people. Common man is on the footpath, not in five-star mandaps. Modi says every action has a reaction; so this fast is a reaction to his false propaganda of 'sadbhavna',” he said.

The satyagrah fast is against the pretence, lies and corruption of Modi in respect of cow-killing, Brahmin killing, women-killing, children-killing, anti-farmer policy, murders and in addition to that, negligence of Constitution, corruption of Rs1 lakh crore in 17 scams and investigation of Rs26,651 crore corruption as reported by CAG, said the leaders.

They questioned Modi's absence of 'sadbhavna' in instances like when cows are slaughtered, when Haren Pandya was murdered, when former home minister Amit Shah was arrested, when a girl was gangraped in Patan and when temples were demolished in Gandhinagar.

Leader of Opposition Shaktisinh Gohil made an emotional appeal saying that why doesn't the man who talks about 'sadbhavna' for 5.5 crore Gujaratis, have any sympathy for those men and women tortured and murdered during the riots in 2002? “Whether it was a Ram or Rahim who was killed during the bloodshed in 2002, how can it be forgotten that they were Gujaratis. He should apologise for the riots,” Gohil stated.

In a statement, the party said, Words like 'hate cannot be conquered with hate' find it difficult to flow from the pen of the man who said on record 'every action has a reaction' in 2002 to justify the killings of minorities.

Last, but not the least, the leaders said their fast would last at least three hours longer than Modi's. Moreover, they insisted that no effort has been made to manage crowds like BJP.

“Whoever naturally wants to join is welcome. We will be on the footpath outside Bapu's ashram, sitting and sleeping in the open without any security,” Vaghela added.
