'The BJP has scaled new heights in political misconduct,' senior lawyer and Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said reacting to the charge that the Centre was misusing CBI.
The Congress has cried foul as the top leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has rallied round in defence of the Gujarat home minister Amit Shah.
“The BJP has scaled new heights in political misconduct,” senior lawyer and Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said reacting to the charge that the Centre was misusing CBI.
In an angry reaction to the BJP’s decision to skip prime minister’s lunch invite, he said: “Does the BJP’s concept of good governance imply that the prime minister should order withdrawal of all pending CBI cases against BJP leaders before this lunch?”
Singhvi observed that the on-going CBI investigation against the Gujarat home minister has been initiated by the Supreme Court after the contention of the state government had been rejected that it conducted the entire enquiry and was ready to file a charge sheet. So, where is the question of the misuse of CBI in this case.
The CBI probe is at the initiative of the Supreme Court,” he added.
Arguing that senior leaders like Arun Jaitley and Sushma swaraj come together on the same stage only on occasions like the release of election manifesto, Singhvi charged that the BJP with trying to influence the course of investigation.” Thir coming together is a pressure tactics in an attempt to influence the investigation and interfere with the administration of justice,” he added.
A Congress leader said BJP’s top leadership had succumbed to the pressure from Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi as the CBI investigation could implicate his ministerial colleague Amit Shah.
