Amid escalating war of words between the party's state unit and Mamata Banerjee's party, Congress today expressed confidence that differences if any with the ally will be sorted out.

"It will not be appropriate for us to comment on a political party, which is our ally. Even if there are problems, we will sort them out. In an alliance with different parties, differences are bound to occur but they are ultimately reconciled," party spokesperson Rashid Alvi told reporters here.

His remarks came on a day when state Congress president Pradip Bhattacharjee said his party had formed an alliance with the Trinamool Congress only because people wanted so.

"It was the Congress high command which had put the seal of approval on the alliance, and now we will leave the alliance only if the high command wants us to," he said. Banerjee's party earlier dared the Congress to walk out of the alliance. The latest trouble between the two allies in West Bengal erupted over the state government's bid to change the name of a government bunglow named after late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

As the controversy peaked, both Congress and Banerjee's party accused each other of working in tandem with CPI(M) and the alliance appeared to be on the rocks.

The Congress spokesperson, however, felt that differences will be resolved ultimately.
