The Congress has taken a very dim view of the proposed anti-corruption rath yatra planned by the senior BJP leader LK Advani and the three-day fast promised by Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi to promote peace and harmony.

Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari said neither of these has anything to do with their professed objectives. “They are just positioning themselves for power,” he said, adding that “the prime ministerial ambitions of the top BJP leaders are well-known, and so is their desire to be named as the prime minister in waiting.”

Meanwhile, reacting to the CRS report, law minister Salman Khurshid said there is not much for the BJP to celebrate considering that the US has still not issued a visa to Modi in view of this track record of the handling of the 2002 Gujarat riots.
However, the BJP used the opportunity to hit back on Congress and Modi-bashers.

The party said this was a fitting reply to the Congress which was obsessed with Modi-bashing. “While the Supreme Court verdict was a big victory for Modiji and proves his secular credentials, this report has clearly highlighted him a development man and how Gujarat has progressed under him,” BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy said.
