The Bihar Pradesh Congress today demanded immediate withdrawal of Maharashtra government's decision that only those who are staying at least for 15 years in that state and are able to read and write Marathi would get permit to drive a taxi.

BPCC president Anil Sharma said the decision was not in the interest of common people who visit the economic capital of the country in search of a job.

The Maharashtra government, run by the Congress and NCP, should take a proper decision in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution, he said.

Sharma said the Constitution provides the right to every Indian citizen to settle, work and do business of his choice in any part of India and hence the decision should be revoked forthwith.

He said the Maharashtra government should not work under duress and they should be prepared to take on the might of Maharashtra Nav Nirman Sena (MNS) of Raj Thackeray and Shiv Sena Supremo Bal Thackeray who are allegedly out to break the unity and integrity of the country on flimsy grounds such as domicile and knowing the local language.
