Conditions for suspending Neetu Singh's deportation absurd: CPI(M)

CPI(M) today dubbed as "absurd" conditions set by Maharashtra government to suspend the deportation of Nepali FTII student Neetu Singh.

"The conditions in the order of Maharashtra government for suspending the deportation are absurd and additional injustice against Neetu," senior CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Brinda Karat told PTI.

Neetu's deportation allegedly for "anti-India activities" over a month ago had attracted criticism from political parties and women's organisations who demanded that the Centre should intervene and get the deportation revoked.

It was alleged that the deportation was ordered by Pune Police at the instance of her estranged husband Amaresh Singh, an influential Nepalese politician.

Neetu, a student of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, has been allowed to return to India under a set of conditions that will help her complete her studies. The conditions includes a ban on talking to media, stay within the campus and bar on approaching any local court.

Karat said the Maharashtra government reconsidered the decision on deporting her due to the Central government's intervention and hoped that there will be further intervention from Delhi to withdraw these "absurd" conditions.

The purpose of the state government to suspend deportation is only to cover up the "mistakes" it had made, she alleged.
