Bracing itself up for the Commonwealth Games, Delhi Fire Services has finalised a comprehensive plan and is in the process of procuring latest equipment to meet fire related emergencies during the mega sporting event.
Chief minister Sheila Dikshit, while speaking at a function to mark the raising day of the DFS, said dedicated fire stations and a separate fire control room will be set up during the event to handle any fire-related incidents.
The DFS has planned a three-tier fire security system in all the Games venues.
A team of fire-fighters with "water mist technology enabled back pack system" will be deputed inside the stadium for immediate response and help in emergency evacuation, she said.
"They will be supported by standby fire engines positioned inside the stadium," she said adding a secured wireless communication and automatic vehicle tracking system has also been planned for the event.
Giving details of the initiatives to modernise the DFS, she said the force has already procured various latest equipments to strengthen its fire fighting capabilities.
Today at any given point of time DFS has eight lakh litres of water on wheels, she said.
"There would be no dearth of funds for modernisation of fire service," she said.
The chief minister also exhorted people to install fire-safety appliances in their buildings and take appropriate preventive measures.
Dikshit assured that all efforts will be made to modernise the fire service using information technology and synchronising it with operational strategies.
Director R C Sharma highlighted the initiative taken by the DFS to modernise its operation.
Sharma further informed that three disaster management centres have been established and are working at Laxmi Nagar, Rohini and Nehru Place Fire Stations.
