CHANDIGARH: A ban was imposed on Friday on serving Coca Cola, Pepsi and other soft drinks in the canteen of the Punjab Assembly "in the interest of the health of all concerned," a spokesman of the House said.

The ban has been ordered following the study report of the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) "which has exposed the high quantity of pesticides in these soft drinks," Secretary of the Assembly Nachhattar Singh Mavi said.

He said the ban would remain in force "till the shadow of these drinks being deadly is cleared."

The canteen serves these drinks in various meetings of Committees as also to visiting MLAs and others, he said.
