Coimbatore hospital, its chief enter Guinness record for liver awareness

Getting 3200 schoolchildren at a nearby town to mime the 'See no evil, hear no evil and Speak no Evil of three monkeys, in a bid to create awarness of liver diseases has earned a Coimbatore hospital and its chief a place in the Guinness Book of World records.

"This record attempt took place on World Hepatitis day on July 28 involving 12,588 people worldwide under the aegis of London-based World Hepatitis Alliance," Dr VG Mohanprasad, chief of VGM Hospital told reporters on Thursday.

The highest participation was in SKP Higher Secondary School,Udumalpet, where the children mimed the action in their school playground. Displaying the Guinness certificate, he said the attempt took place within a 24-hour period on July 28 to mark the fifth global world hepatitis day. Participants stood in rows covering their eyes, ears and mouths in sequence.

Individual attempts which contributed to the record varied from modest to the enormous, as in Novia Scotia, Canada, where 224 volunteers held their attempt on a helipad overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.
