Gujarat chief minister is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that all those members of public willing do get involved in public work are roped in to work with the government. In addition to launching a unique scheme, the CM's fellowship programme, Modi has started a programme for all those willing to volunteer for him. The interesting part in this is the organised handling of the programme as well as its promise to ‘duly recognise the most diligent members’ of volunteer community.
According to sources in the chief minister's office, over 2,000 applications have already been received within one month since the launch of CM's fellowship. This fellowship programme will formally allow young professionals and students to work with various government departments.
For the volunteers programme, the official website of the CM — narendramodi.com — has a full section devoted to the same. According to CMO officials, the idea is to rope in people from all walks of life, including younger students, retired professional and even housewives.
"There are various activities already defined including working as a guide at Science City or Indroda Park or translate some of the literature and CM's speeches. A registered volunteer can pick any of these and based on that he or she will get some credit points,” an official told DNA. “Those with maximum credit points would be rewarded in various ways, which may include spending time with Modi himself," he added.
However, the initial response to the volunteer programme has not been as good as that for the fellowship with barely 300 people registering as volunteers so far.
