Clean Ganga campaign launched in Uttarakhand by Advani

Expressing happiness at the state government's plans to make a law to keep the river clean, the BJP stalwart called for its strict implementation.

BJP leader LK Advani today launched the Uttarakhand government's clean Ganga campaign here and asked people all over the country to play an active role in the conservation of the holy river.
    
Speaking after the launch of the campaign christened "Ganga Sparsh Abhiyan", Advani said it was imperative that people gave their wholehearted support for the success of the programme.
    
Expressing happiness at the state government's plans to make a law to keep the river clean, the BJP stalwart called for its strict implementation.
    
"I have been told that the state government is bringing a law on cleaning the Ganga river. I would like to ask the government to implement the law strictly," he said.
    
"The mahakumbh has become memorable largely due to the launching of the Sparsh Ganga programme," he said.
     
Advani also recollected the "Sindhu Darshan Abhiyan" of 1990s when the government launched similar efforts to clean the Indus river in Jammu and Kashmir.
    
Speaking on the ocassion, chief minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said the government was sincere in its efforts to make the clean Ganga programme successful.
    
Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama also complimented the government's efforts in keeping the Ganga clean saying it augered well for the peace and prosperity of the world.
    
In the end, top religious and spiritual leaders like Baba Ramdev, Swami Chidanand Muni and others took pledges to keep the Ganga clean.
