Tibetan spiritual head, the Dalai Lama today said he wanted China to be "transparent" for ensuring good relations between Beijing and New Delhi.

"I support and wish peaceful and improved relations between India and China based on honesty and transparency as it involves the lives of billions of people. Unfortunately, China has not been transparent," the Dalai Lama told reporters at the Tibetan settlement here.

Denying that his presence and activities in India could adversely affect Sino-Indian relationship, he said both India and China were large countries and there should be peace and good relations between them.

He also expressed concern over global warming and climate change and its impact on the Tibetan region.

"It poses a real danger to mankind as many major rivers in the region have their origin in Tibet," he said.

The Dalai Lama replied in the negative when asked whether Tibetans settled here in Naxal-infested Gajapati district could face a threat from Maoists as China was reported to be against him.

He disapproved of violence by Maoists saying, "all problems should be solved through peaceful and non-violent means."
