Children visiting this year's Kankaria Carnival will have much to look forward to as many interesting events have been planned keeping their entertainment in mind.

With a view to educate, entertain and enlighten the minds of children, this year's Kankaria Carnival will have several interesting events including a book fair, a children's film festival and a toy fair, at the week-long carnival in December.

The carnival, which will be held from December 25 to 31, will host many special events among which these three would be this year's added attractions.

Children's film festival
Tiny tots will be able to watch a series of interesting films produced by the Children's Film Society of India (CFSI).

Chaired by actress Nandita Das, CFSI produces meaningful children-centric films and screens them free of cost at various events.

Children visiting the carnival will be able to watch award-winning CFSI films, which will be screened at the open-air theatre there.

Emphasising the need for such screenings, Nandita Das said, "We had tremendous response for the Monsoon Dhamaal Children's Film Festival held in the city earlier this year. Through these screenings we constantly try to promote children's films amongst younger audiences."

She further said that most of the content on children's TV channels is produced outside India. "Young audiences here rarely get the opportunity to watch a film that they can directly relate to. We have carefully selected quality films that are not only fun but also broaden the kids' perspective about the world they live in," Das added.

Speaking to DNA, spokesperson of CFSI for Gujarat, Chetan Chauhan, said, "A selection of seven films will be screened at the Carnival."

Book Fair
Apart from entertainment, the children will also be given exposure to a plethora of literature specific to their age. Around 10,000 children's books will be kept on display for them to read.

"Such a huge book fair for children has been organised for the first time in the state. We want to inculcate the habit of reading among children through the fair," stated Mahendra Shah, owner of Navbharat Sahitya Mandir, organiser of the Kankaria Carnival fair.

The book fair will have books on various subjects like general knowledge, science, mathematics, story books, as well as spirituality for children and mythology, among others, thus offering a wide range for the children to select.

"These books will be available to children of all age groups - from primary to class XII students,"
informed Shah.

Toy fair
The toy fair will be the one place where kids will automatically and compulsively swarm to.

This fair will be the first of its kind in the state.

"This is the premier toy festival in the state with more than 4,000 varieties of toys on display and sale," said an official of AMC.

The exhibition will be open from 11 am to 10 pm where toys will be exhibited and sold.

The price of the toys ranges from Rs50 to a whopping Rs25,000. Many local as well international toy brands have shown interest in exhibiting their toys at the fair, the official said.
