A Moscow-bound chartered flight, with 250 passengers on board, suffered a bird hit while taxiing for take-off from the city airport today, airport sources said.

The incident occurred at 0730 hours when the Aerofloat-operated flight was taxiing on the runway for take-off, airport director D Paul Manickam said.

The sudden brakes applied by the pilot also led to the tyres of the aircraft burst, he said.

The flight has been grounded and will be inspected later in the day, officials added.
