Opposition parties in Andhra Pradesh tonight warned that the Congress government will be held responsible if anything untoward happens to Telugu Desam party (TDP) president Chandrababu Naidu, who continued his hunger strike for the sixth day today despite rapid deterioration in his condition.

They strongly condemned the "adamant and vindictive attitude" of both the state and the central governments on the farmers' issue even as a determined Naidu resolved to continue his indefinite fast launched to seek higher compensation for the agriculturists affected by natural calamities in Andhra Pradesh.

Leaders of TDP, Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India (Marxist), Lok Satta, CPI (New Democracy) and Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) held an emergency meeting at the NTR Bhavan this evening and announced they would organise a road blockade on all state and national highways in Andhra Pradesh tomorrow to condemn the government's "indifference" to the farmers' misery.

Doctors attending on the former chief minister at the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) said his condition was stable but still "worrying".

"He needs to take fluids immediately but he is refusing to do so. Without fluids, the deterioration in his condition will first affect his heart," principal secretary (Health) and director (in charge) of NIMS PV Ramesh told news persons tonight.

NIMS authorities converted the room, in which Naidu was admitted, into a temporary Intensive Care Unit after efforts to shift him to the ICU failed.

BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu visited the TDP chief in NIMS tonight. Lok Satta President Jayaprakash Narayan also visited the leader of opposition and requested him to give up the fast.
