The condition of TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu "deteriorated" further today even as he continued with his indefinite hunger-strike seeking justice for farmers for the fifth day.

The former Andhra Pradesh chief minister's personal doctor Somaraju, who examined him at the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences, said, "His condition has worsened as he is not taking any solid or liquid diet. He is refusing to take even fluids. Chandrababu’s condition will worsen further if he continues his fast."

"Chandrababu is very weak because of the continued fasting," Somaraju told reporters at the hospital.

A six-member team of expert doctors from NIMS is constantly monitoring the leader of the opposition.

Naidu's blood sugar level has also increased, the government doctors attending on him said this morning.

State secretaries of CPI and CPi (M), K Narayana and BV Raghavulu, visited NIMS and interacted with Naidu. Film actor Murali Mohan and other leaders too called on Naidu but doctors asked visitors not to go close to Naidu since he has caught a cold and is suffering from an infection.

The TDP and the Left parties continued their protests for the second day today. Road blockades were held at several places while the protestors laid siege to government offices.

At Nandigama in Krishna district, the party workers locked up the local tehsildar's office and did not allow employees to work.

Police took several agitating TDP workers into custody outside the NIMS when they staged a protest demanding payment of enhanced compensation to calamity-hit farmers.

Naidu is on an indefinite hunger strike in protest against the "inadequate" relief package announced by the state government for farmers who lost their crop in the recent rains.
