Chameli Devi Jain Awards confered on journalists

Eminent journalists Shoma Chaudhury of 'Tehelka' and Monalisa Changkija of 'Nagaland Page' were the recipients of the prestigious award.

Eminent journalists Shoma Chaudhury of 'Tehelka' and Monalisa Changkija of 'Nagaland Page' were today conferred the prestigious Chameli Devi Jain Award for Outstanding Woman Mediapersons.

Chaudhury is the executive editor of Tehelka magazine while Changkija is the editor of 'Nagaland Page'.

Tasungtetla E Longkumer received the award on behalf of her mother Changkija as she could not make it to the function. The awards were presented by Deviki Jain. 

The jury that made the selection comprised columnist Madhu Jain, former Director General of Doordarshan Bhaskar Ghose and Professor Dipankar Gupta. 

In a speech read out by Tasungtetla, Changkija, editor of Nagaland Page, said she was proud to receive the award.

"I am deeply grateful to the Media Foundation for giving me this wake up call in the form of Chameli Devi Award for an Outstanding Woman Mediaperson. Yes, there are many more miles to go and perhaps from now on we can talk those miles together," she said.

Media Foundation chairman B G Verghese and Outlook's editor-in-chief Vinod Mehta were also present on the ocassion.

Later, participating in a panel discussion on 'The Influence of Public Relations on Journalism", Mehta said journalists should use public relation officer and let them not use the scribes.

"Public Relations is a fact of life and we have to live with it," he said.
