Centres change, commerce distance edu students panic

On Wednesday, hundreds of third-year commerce distance education students struggled to finish their Accounts-I paper as they reached their exam centre at least an hour late.

But, it was not their fault. The university had changed the centres at the last minute.

The university claimed that everything was under control. “We had intimated the students a day before the exam on our website. Still, we gave them extra 105 minutes to complete the paper, breaking the rule of 30 minutes for late comers,” said a varsity official.
More than 850 students of distance education (IDOL), who were allotted NM College at Vile Parle on Monday, were shifted to Thakur College at Kandivli (E) on Tuesday, as there was no space to accommodate them at NM College.

But, most of the students had no clue about the last-minute change and turned up at NM College on Wednesday.

By the time they reached Thakur College, they were an hour late for the exam. Though they got an extra time to complete the paper, they claimed that because of the stress and anxiety, they could not “give their best”.

Around 12 students, who were allotted MK Sanghvi College, reached the place an hour early only to find out that their centre had been changed to colleges at Malad, Bandra, Borivli and Dahisar.

“The university should have intimated us. They have all our contact details,” said a disappointed student.
