The Centre will not come in the way of formation of a new government in Jharkhand led by BJP and may initiate the process of revoking President's Rule there once a report from governor MOH Farooq comes tomorrow.
Farooq had a telephonic talk with home minister P Chidambaram today and briefed him about the latest political developments in Jharkhand.
The governor is believed to have conveyed to the home minister that he is verifying the support offered to the BJP by JMM, JDU, AJSU and two independent MLAs and would send his report to the home ministry tomorrow for necessary action.
"If the governor recommends revocation of the President's Rule, the Central government will do accordingly and will not come in the way of forming a government led by the BJP," a senior government functionary said.
If the governor suggests revocation of the President's Rule in Jharkhand, a meeting of the Union cabinet will be convened soon -- probably by Thursday -- to complete the formality of recommending to the president to withdraw Central rule there.
In fast-paced developments in Ranchi, the JMM offered "unconditional" support to the BJP after which its Legislature
Party elected former chief minister Arjun Munda as its leader.
Munda met the governor and claimed the support of 45 legislators in a House with an effective strength of 81.
In the list submitted to the governor, there were 18 MLAs each of BJP and JMM, two from JDU, five from AJSU and two independent MLAs-- Chamra Linda and Bidesh Singh.
Jharkhand came under President's Rule on June 1 after Shibu Soren resigned from the chief minister's post on May 30 following withdrawal of support by the BJP.
The total strength of the Jharkhand Assembly is 82. One nominated MLA from Anglo-Indian community, Joseph P Galstaun, died in June.
